Biography
Since graduating from the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA) in 2008, Sheena Kelly has been based in Belfast as a dancer, choreographer and facilitator, working across Northern Ireland, England, Scotland, Norway, Austria and Germany. She has worked and trained with established artists including Royston Maldoom OBE, Alan Greig (Scotland) Anjela Doni (Moscow), Philip Johnson (Philadelphia), Mary Prestidge (UK), Tamara Mclorg (UK), Mags Byrne (IRL) and Steve Batts (IRL).
As a choreographer she has created work for BBC, Youth Music Theatre UK, Dance United NI and Crescent Arts Centre. Her independent choreographic work includes pieces ‘Count the Spaces…’ ‘3.Shades.White’, ‘Cavehill’ and ‘Two’. She continues to dance as part of festivals including Culture Night Belfast, SommerResidance Germany, ‘Soma’ by Imogene Newland at Queens and Echo Echo Dance Theatre’s research week with Moscow based Anjela Doni.
As a facilitator she has been mentored by Community dance specialists Royston Maldoom OBE, Mags Byrne and Tamara Mclorg and worked with a wide range of diverse groups including adults and young people with learning and physical disabilities. She works for various companies including BBC Blast, Youth Music Theatre UK, Crescent Arts Centre, Open Arts and Dance United NI. Sheena recently received a travel award from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland to develop her practice in community dance and is a professional member of the Foundation of Community Dance.
